You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
Call them out on it, but lovingly! I have had this happen a few times and this is what I've said "I am not sure you realize, but "Jane" is a dear friend of mine and what you're saying is completely unjustified and honestly I'm very disappointed you'd talk so horribly about her." They'll squirm and then try talking their way out of it, and normally be ashamed of themselves and apologize.
