Mostly the whole story with an update

Have I told you lately how great you all are? Seriously, a gal couldn't ask for a better group of friends.

The story on my grandma is a long one but here is the Reader's Digest version....

For a few weeks she claims she is falling out of bed, but yet when she wakes up she doesn't know how, when, or why. (She tends to be a little melodramatic so just go with me here.) I think it was yesterday morning that my dad got a call from a lady that is friends with my G-ma saying that she had fallen out of bed in the night again, didn't remember, but she couldn't feel her legs, and her mouth was drawn. The friend and my G-ma thought maybe she had a stroke.

Now, I know getting this information like tenth-hand from me, the symptoms don't add up. Don't worry, you are not lost. They never add up with her. The last time my dad had to go up there for a major 'spell' they thought she was having something ( I can't remember what) and it turns out she was going through withdrawls from not taking her Xanax. She had just been in the hospital and they didn't give her the pill daily. The pill that her other doctor said she should and could take. It was a MESS.

(If you take that shit, get off of it now. It is highly addictive. 'Cuse my french.)

So, Scooby-Doo back to yesterday...they take her to the hospital in Scottsville. They say they can't handle the case and send her to Bowling Green. She gets there and they say she has pneumonia and did NOT have a stroke. (Big shocker there.)

Today, they decide she is getting worse, doesn't have pneumonia, but most likely some other infection that isn't showing up in tests yet. Then there is a place on her leg that is warm--almost feverish--and they are looking into that I think for the lack of feeling.

While she is really sick, she isn't as sick as it was told to my dad yesterday before he left. Of course this friend is about 80. My G-ma's husband is like 79 and in even poorer health. Two weeks ago, she was fine. That's the sucky thing about old age, I reckon.

I appreciate all your thoughts and healing vibes. I know my dad really needs that right now.

Oh my. What a mess. ::sigh::

The warm, feverish spot on her leg...do they think she has a blood clot in her leg (DVT)?

I tell ya, there is nothing fun about getting old. Jenn and I were just talking about this the other day.

I do hope your grandma is okay, Heather. I know how worrisome it can be.

Love you.

Ouch! What a difficult situation. All the best to your dad, and good wishes for your grandma.

Goodness, I hope they get to bottom of it all.

sigh, I don't want to get old. Thanks for reminding us what great things we have to look forward too. =)

I'm going thorugh the same kind of mess over here with Jesse's mom. We see this doctor who shrugs off her issues, then on to another one who thinks it's this, and then another one who thinks it's that. omg....some day a doctor is going to kill her because of all the meds she is on.

We're going through something similar with my dad's mom. A lot of it has to do with a series of doctors (all from the same hospital!) prescribing her medications for ailments she may or may not have that counteract each other or have really nasty side effects. They finally took her off everything and now she's having a lot of trouble moving around because of her back problems. Not to say it's the same with your grandma, but just saying I understand how you feel and send positive thoughts your way. Look, I just did that example-to-prove-I'm-listening thing! Sorry. :)
