The age of innocence

I was watching one of those shows on VH-1, "100 Greatest Child Actors of All Time" or something like that. My favorite part is when it tells what they are doing now. Some have went on to do great things; some, not so much. Sad really.

I forget where Chad Allen landed in the line up, but at one time, he was number one in my heart. I had the biggest crush on him. Remember the show, "Our House?" He was ADORABLE. Then, he was on "My Two Dads?" Oh my.

Anyway, I must have missed the big announcement that he was gay. I will say, he is still cute.

That little tidbit reminded me that I also had a crush on George Michael and Doogie Howser.

I think we can all see where this is going.

Then, Phoebe Cates comes up. I liked her, but really only remember her in "Gremlins" and "Drop Dead Fred." Apparently, there is another side that most men remember from the day:

I guess this is from a little known movie called, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

I haven't seen this movie, but it seems I am the only one.

The commentators during her segment are all going on and on about this famous scene where she, well, you've all seen it.

My husband gets home and I am telling him various trivia of this show. Then, to test him, I say, "So, do you remember some famous scene with Phoebe Cates?"

Him: "Who?" (Looks at me like I am making people up.)

Me: "You know. She was in that movie "Drop Dead Fred."

Him: ::blink::

Me: "There was another movie--I don't know the name-- where she had a re..."

Him: (Quite loudly) "OH! Yeah! 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' she was wearing this bikini and it was red and she got out of the pool all slow like and then.....

He is talking a mile a minute, and I am rolling in the floor with laughter. Of all the great movies made in the 80s, the only two my husband has seen feature hot, nakey women, er, girls. Do you want to guess on the other movie?

I'll give you a moment....

"Weird Science" You know, with Kelly Le Broc.

Oh well.

I suppose if his crushes had been Chad Allen, George Michael, and Doogie Howser, we wouldn't have had that conversation.

Who was your crush?

I ran across an article about stars who are gay and was totally surprised at Chad Allen and Doogie! I had no idea! But I think that means that they must keep their private life private and I really really like that. I loved Our House, too, before Shannon Doherty got all snobbed out on 90210. =)
