Somewhere in a cold room, a mother weeps.
Yesterday, a father pulled into the park which leads to the car rider line, and realized his little girl was in trouble. He calls 9-1-1 as he tries desperately to resuscitate her.
An ambulance picks her up, and ultimately she is taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt where she is pronounced dead.
There was nothing the father could have done. Nothing the medical staff could do to reverse the effects. The culprit:
Look familiar? It's on most sports drinks and some bottles of water. The part of that cap that slides up and allows liquid to flow had come off and got lodged in her throat. So deep, in fact, it couldn't be seen.
At seven years old, this second grader left this earth.
On the way to school.
I can't get my head around this. There is nothing more routine or normal than handing a child a drink on request. No reason for alarm. For that sweet baby's life to be over so suddenly, over by something so simple and everyday, is mind-boggeling.
My thoughts are with this family this evening. I can't even begin to understand what they must be going through.
Hug your babies tonight and tell them how much you love them.
Nothing is certain.

Oh, how incredibly sad! I buy bottles with special lids for Evie, so this won't happen.
Wow. I am without words.
What a heartbreaking story. I will be praying for this family.
