Life lesson #884:
When you call to order stuff "as $een T.V" (e.g T.urbowave, G.T Express 101, S.moothA.way), please expect there to be much more to the process than simply placing the order.
A few months ago, I got a job working from home. Of course, I was skeptical at first, but I had done mucho research and knew that it was a legitimate job. It was a perfect set-up; I trained on my own time (got paid to do it!). Now that I am 'certified', I simply make my own schedule based on the hours that are availble.
BUT.
Isn't there always a 'but'?
People call and they are expecting to only order the product they just saw on T.V. But, as per company policy, I have to read each screen that populates for the "Up.Sells." Sometimes there are many screens. And on every call I had today, I had to read this long parapgraph stating that they would get a $50 Wal-Mart gift card for "trying out the service" that, incidentally, had NOTHING to do with the product they were purchasing. I have only had one person say yes, and between you and I, I wanted to tell the guy that it's not worth it. He will have to call this toll-free number before the trial period is over and cancel. I am being purposefully vague here, so if you want to know more details, leave me a comment and I'll explain in detail in email.
The last call I had was mentally taxing. She got confused; I got confused. Finally finished the call and her inital order of $149+ s&h came to &349 and change because of add ons and what not.
Ethically, I feel like this is all wrong. When I was training, I asked my husband to come in and listen to one section (it has to do with the W.al-Mart card). I felt like they are asking us to be purposefully deceitful and getting more money out of folks than they realize. He said that it is all spelled out in black and white, and they are making the decision.
We need the extra cash, so until I find another (legal) way to make money that also fits into an already unpredictable schedule, I will keep schleping out the goods.
Graduation can not come fast enough.
(Please don't order stuff off t.v.- if you do, be patient with your rep.resentative)

Hey babe...can you send me more info about this job? Is it something I could do at various times during the day?
I really need to make some extra cash right now for Parker's treatments.
Thanks!
Ugh. I would love to work from home, but I don't know that I could do something that feels wrong to me. I'd have to agree with you rather than your husband. Sometimes people simply get confused and don't really know what they are agreeing to. :( I guess that it's good that this situation rarely comes up though.
:)
hehe I only have bought one thing from TV and that was TurboJam (which I ordered on the net, just so I didn't have to get talked to about stuff I didn't want). You know you have to do what you have to do, and yeah it might suck and all but when people are calling hey want it and heck I'd want to listento you talk! : )
BTW I love the as seen on tv shops at the mall of america, they are ALWAYS packed though!
Well, ya just gotta get hip!
No Money-Motive, just an Informative Blog to sharpen your awareness, that's the ticket! reb

Oh, but the work from home thing sounds so nice.
I used to be a sales manager, and believe me, there are way more sleazy tricks out there...
I have to say, I'm really curious about the pads that "smooth" away your leg hair. Do you sell those???
I would first have to watch TV to order anything off it - so I am safe!!
