Rambles

-Exactly one month from today is the first day of school.

-I am disappointed in the prizes (and I use that word loosely) given to my children for the reading program from the library. One of my children has logged I think something close to 28 hours!! He has more than his fair share of ice cream cone, french fry, and kid's meal coupons. It took something of a small miracle to get them to read but they did because of the prizes that were advertised. I'll never get them to read this much again...

-'Normal' is not a word in my everyday vocabulary. I should write a post about that.

-I feel like something is missing. Maybe it's money.

-Tomorrow, I am getting with my neighbor and she is going to show me the world of couponing. I can't wait.

-I really miss Diet Coke.

-That Jessica chick posing as Justin's girlfriend on "The Bachelorette" tonight had the most fake cry I have ever seen. I am not even sure why I'm watching that show.

-I finished another book today. To Have and To Hold by Jane Green. If I could write as fast as I read, I'd be golden!

-Tomorrow is the last day before payday. Which means Old Mother Hubbard's cupboards are bare. The Food Network could produce an episode of "Chopped" in my kitchen. Please make an entree out of a jar of pickles, mini-marshmallows, and some fresh thyme...

-I am sort of tired of my layout. But it has been this way since almost the beginning and it seems scary to change it.

-Well, I did change it. (the layout) Any suggestions?

-Why is my mind the most productive when I should be sleeping?

Dear Gulf Shores,

I miss you.

It has been two years to the week since we were last together. To say I haven't thought of you would be a lie. I think of you often and lovingly.

I want nothing more than for you to wrap your warmth around me as your gentle waves lull me into a place that only you and I know.

Oh, how I long for that salty smell of you and the feel of your breath on my skin as you run your fingers through my hair.

To see you with others puts an ache in my heart. We agreed it would be better this way. But the bottom line, Gulf; I can't quit you.

They have kept us apart for now, but soon, we'll meet again.

Faithfully(but broke),
Heather

P.S. Hopefully when I come back, I'll either have a new camera, or the timestamp set properly.

Dear

guy at Game Stop;
I am sure you had the best of intentions when you immediately told your co-worker to assist the customer as she was entering the store. While he is assisting aforementioned customer, don't turn away from me in the middle of my question to start helping said customer. In answer to your snide remark to co-worker, I didn't buy the game BECAUSE OF THAT.

girl that sits behind me in Lit;
You are there. You participate. We get it. Quit clearing your throat every four seconds.

Lit instructor;
Thank-you for allowing me to re-submit my essay. That sentence fragment and possessive noun was bothering me. A lot.

table of students in library;
SHH!

guy walking in the library;
please pick up your feet.

Big Daddy;
I love you. I am sorry you are so tired. I hope your day off Friday is a good one.

Kids;
I love you, too. Please pick up after yourselves. I am your mother, not the maid.

Beef O'Brady's;
the sign should read: Mondays 7-8, not Monday's 7-8. Monday does not own 7-8.

partner in Astronomy Lab;
I am sorry I snipped at you. I wanted to get out as early as you did. But "blah, blah, blah" doesn't tell us where to click.

girl in bathroom;
You didn't wash your hands. Perhaps you forgot? Thank-you for getting your drink out of the Pepsi machine since I was going to the Coke machine. I hope you don't work in food service.

bank;
Help. Need money.

employers needing at-home workers;
Help. Need job.

B.ucky Covington (and fans);
I am sorry that I don't care for Country music. Kudos to you for having the opportunity to do what you love. Everyone should be so lucky.

Sonic;
Less ice is more.

giant chocolate bunny;
Quit calling my name. I am ignoring you for a reason.

Monroe;
Quit knocking my books off the bottom shelf. It isn't cute anymore.

friends;
Thanks for stopping by!

Irony is...

...being a member of multiple social networks, yet feeling so lonely my heart hearts.

...telling children all day that they can do anything they put their minds to, then doubting myself so much that I want to give up.

...having a chance to go to the Regional Convention for PTK, all expenses paid, but too scared to go because they will think I am dumb. And old.

...wanting to write finish a book (or two) but not being able to explain the significance of the setting to a fourth grader.

...wanting needing to lose weight, but can't.stop.eating.jelly.beans.

...my husband knowing that I need to lose weight, knowing I am "down", and buying me the aforementioned jellybeans to cheer me up.

...the more we are in debt, the less I want to work.

...feeling so tired but can't sleep straight through the night.

...Daylight Savings Time. Seriously. There are very few farmers in America. Why do we need a time change? However, I am all for "falling back."

... complaining that I am 'normal', but searching desperately for a tenth item so the list would be even.

All the kids are doing it...

Spring Break for the collegiate masses is here my friends.

I was sitting in Music waiting for class to start, and I could hear two girls (mostly because they were quite loud--why is that??) talking about missed opportunities for a vacay in the coming week.

"I was totally going to go to Orlando with Soandso, but I haven't worked, like, since August."
"Girl. I know. I was going to C.hattanooga to visit Whatername, but she is like having an issue or something and called the other night and said we couldn't come.
"Aww. That's too bad."
"Yeah. So I guess I'll catch up on schoolwork or something."
"Well text me next week and maybe we can go do something if you are totally bored."
"Oh! I will! I know I will be bored."

Please note that neither girl wondered if Whatshername was ok, or if they should stage some sort of intervention, or check on her. Nothing. The only problem was lack of plans. I can only assume the schoolwork will not be getting caught up on either.

I am giggling to myself, thinking about how their ideals on an awesome Spring Break were slightly different than my own.

"I am going to totally clean the house from top to bottom! All the closets need to be reorganized and drawers, too! I might even wash and wax the car if it gets to 60 like they said it would! And you know what else will be so awesome? I can go to bed each night and not dream of allegory, or Woodrow Wilson, or electomagnetic gases NOT TO MENTION that I can go to sleep at 8:30 if I want!"

Then I realized that I have never been in college where I wasn't someone's mother. I wonder if I have missed something...

(Doubt it.)

I am going to do some studying especially History and Astronomy. One day I am going with my dad to Kentucky to talk to my grandmother for a research paper. I already know that I am working Monday and most likely Thursday. But you know what I am most excited about?

Reading.

I went to the public library yesterday and grabbed one book at school today. Here is the list:

The Perks of Being a Wallflower -already started it and love it!
Little Earthquakes -it is possible that I have read this, but Jennifer Weiner is my favorite so I grabbed it anyway.
Revolutionary Road
sTori Telling- don't judge. I also just saw she has a new book out April 1, Mommywood.
The Secret Life of Bees

Ten (counting today) days to read totally for pleasure. Pure bliss, I tell you.

Hey, I may go all Moms Gone Wild and get some of that 'me' time I hear so much about...

What happens in a lysol fog

I had a couple of ideas to blog about earlier today, but I didn't write them down and obviously didn't stop to actual type something up.

I just counted and there are nineteen days until Christmas. Not counting today..which means I am going to have to do two entries in one day to stay on track.

Interesting day today....

...Up at 6:30 to be awake enough to work at 7:30.

...Surprisingly slow; only took 1o calls in 2 hours.

...One child woke up complaining of severe throat pain, another was vomiting.

...The house smells like Lysol. (Please don't send comments on how bad Lysol is/was/could be...so is a stomach virus.)

...Finished my Education portfolio. New record for me. It gets graded on Tuesday. Last semester I finished it the morning of the final. (shh...)

...Learned I need to study more. (Judging from the content of this blog, I am sure you were more than aware of that already.)

...You've Got Mail just came on. I LOVE her hair in this movie.

...I have sat here for about 25 minutes and have come up with nothing else. This may be another clue to study more....

See y'all on the flip side. The civil war awaits my perusal.

...I am pretty sure I used "perusal" incorrectly.

How to succeed (or not) in college

When one is doing research via the 'net, be sure to read the entire document carefully. Should one come across passages written as, "Several techniques can be used to asses the children while in the classroom." or "There are also students that are able to hide there disorder when out in public...."consider whether or not the document falls under the "academic and scholarly reference" portion of the assignment.

Also, remember plagiarism is not acceptable. Careers have been destroyed by this practice.

Of course, one could always be picked to run as a Vice-President.

(And win.)

As requested: The Weather

Well Sarah, I guess it's just you and me.

The weather?

Yesterday was really nice, temps around 90. The humidity was low, so it didn't feel hot, and the sky was blue. Rarity in the summer months here.

Today has been cloudy all day with intermittent sprinkles.

*I have been in a creative rut. Since the last time I wrote there has been nothing of significance to report. Like Kate says, "Everyday is painfully the same, but vastly different." Hmm..they have a new design on their website...

*If I don't get called to work soon, I may be finding an alternative way to make el dinero.

*Today in Geography, the instructor referred to me as "ma'am." Now in the south, that is customary and all --I am ok with that. BUT. He has two girls that he refers to as "Buffy." He says they have "the perfect hair, the nice clothes..you know, the cheerleader type." Well, as offensive as I find that, even if he called ME Buffy, when this 62-year-old man called me ma'am...you can imagine how I have felt since.

*We woke up Sunday to find that someone had hit the stop sign in the yard and completely knocked it over. Big Daddy got it back right, but I called the City yesterday to report it. The first person I talked to transferred me to the street department, which is the number I dialed [but I digress] and Moses answered the phone. Then he asked me for directions. :::think about that::: This morning, BD just so happens to see them working on the sign...on the other corner. So he directs them our way, and it takes three men to unbolt the three signs, tamp the pole into the dirt, and reassemble. I expect it to blow over this weekend.

*Last night, Nicholas asked BD who he was voting for. He answered to which Nicholas replied, "Well, get ready to pay more taxes." Cracks me up, him being in 4th grade and all.

*Today I heard that Sarah Palin was a part of the Miss USA/America pageant circle which she emphasized that it is a scholarship program. If they get elected, do you think she is striving for world peace and a puppy for everyone? I should look up those videos on YouTube and see what her talent was. Well, I didn't find a video, but I did find that she won Miss Congeniality. You know, as a woman, I think she should be offended she was picked to run as VP. Not because she is a woman, but because McCain has now been caught talking out both sides of his, um, mouth. And that's all I have to say about that.

I suppose that is about it for today. I have several days of entries planned. My hope is to get them typed....

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Let's call it an hor'dourve

I just want to thank-you all again for all the well wishes, emails, and comments. If you emailed me and I didn't reply, please accept my apologies. I didn't mean it. Swear.

Here are some highlights that I shall go over tomorrow night, whilst Big Daddy is at work....
-Went for follow-up on Thursday. Healing fine and released to go back to work.
-I started back to classes today, well, night to be exact. I have one evening class and the rest are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-I accomplished NOTHING last week while I was off.
-Kids are great.
-Husband is phenomenal.
-Tomorrow's entry will be exciting.
-Even if I have to make it up.
:)

Things to wonder...

Why do the appliances break as soon as the warranty runs out? Would they last longer without a warranty?

Why does the cat feel the need to get in the litter box as soon as I scoop it?

Why are the female guest hosts on Regis and Kelly always blonde?

Where did the sock go once it escaped the washer?

What else does Kate Gosselin do besides cook?

Why does Big Daddy lock the windows upstairs but leaves them unlocked downstairs?

Why is it, as soon as it is mentioned you are having a procedure, someone ALWAYS has a horror story pertaining to the same procedure? Then, he or she will say, "But I am sure that won't happen to you..."?

Should I just go ahead and paint the walls black and save myself another 10 years of scrubbing?

How could a child be too well- mannered?

Should "well-mannered" be hyphened?

Is it wrong that I think it's rude to walk through other people's yards?

What are you wondering about today?
